THE SIGNS OF THE TIME

Jesus rebuked the Pharisees because they were not able to discern the signs of the times ‘spiritually’. Matthew 16:36 - “Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the time!”
Although they were the so-called ‘spiritual leaders of the day’, they had no idea what God was doing, or what was on His agenda.
At present South Africa is experiencing the worst drought recorded and people seem to be unaware of the consequences. I see many people wasting water, not knowing how critical the situation is.
If we were to look with a ‘spiritual’ eye, we would see that the Church too is going through a spiritual drought. Most Churches and Christians are surviving on the thoughts of past outpourings of God’s Spirit, but have had no ‘fresh rains’ of God’s Spirit. ‘If things are all right in my life, why be concerned about others’, seems to be the attitude in many Christians’ lives!
The Christian Church is at a place of lethargy, apathy and of no concern, unaware of the dire situation. The Bible says that Elijah was a man like us who prayed and it did not rain, and he prayed again and it rained (James 5:17,18). Today we need the spiritual Elijah’s that can touch the throne of God and move our Father to pour out His Holy Spirit again!
Hosea 10:12 speaks about the fallow ground, which is ground lying waste, not cultivated. This ground needs to be ploughed, but how can it without soaking rain?
How many Christian lives and Churches today are fallow ground, where the Word is being sown Sunday after Sunday with no effect. What is needed is a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit, which will soften the ground of our hearts, so that the Word can bring increase and produce His fruit.
This spiritual drought will be broken when God sends rain over the whole nation, not just on one or two cities. Revival is not when God’s Spirit falls upon one congregation, but when the whole Church receives an outpouring of God’s Spirit. Let us become Elijah’s who will touch our Father, and pray for the outpouring of His Holy Spirit!
Let’s together seek God, not just for our lives or congregations, but rather to see His Kingdom come and this spiritual drought broken over the whole of His Church!
