DON'T LIVE IN DARKNESS
About 130 years ago in a small Wisconsin town, a five-year-old boy named Max Hoffman caught cholera. Within three days he was pronounced dead by a physician and burried in the village cemetery.
But his parents were both disturbed by dreams that their son was not really dead. Max's father had the coffin dug up. When the coffin was opened, it was discovered that Max had turned over on his side. Although he was still unconscious, Max was given medical attention and recovered in a week's time. He lived into his 80's in Iowa - the metal handles of his childhood coffin still kept as a memento.
"You are sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness (1 Thess. 5:50). Darkness in Scripture is a picture of spiritual death and separation from God. When you are transformed by God into a "son of the day", it's only natural that you keep yourself separate from the world's darkness.
Max certainly wouldn't have crawled back into his grave - why should you do anything to return to the spiritual death from which Christ has rescued you? Thank God for the freedom from sin He has given you!
