AN INCH OF TIME
“Millions of money for an inch of time!” cried Elizabeth, the gifted but ambitious queen of England upon her dying bed. Unhappy woman, reclining upon a couch, with ten thousand dresses in her wardrobe, a kingdom on which the sun never sets, at her feet - all now valueless; and she shrieked in anguish and she shrieked in vain for a single “inch of time”.
She had enjoyed seventy years. Like too many among us, she had devoted them to wealth, to pleasure, to pride, and ambition, so that her whole preparation for eternity was crowded into a few moments; and hence she, who had wasted more than half a century, would exchange millions for an “inch of time”!
