WHAT'S IN YOUR HAND? | |

Marilyn Hickey “Sometimes, serving is one of the most supernatural things we can do.” God uses the simple things we hold in our hands to touch the lives of others. There are three things we have in our hands that may seem insignificant, but which have the potential to become life-changing. In Exodus 3, God spoke to Moses out of a burning bush. He told Moses that He had seen the Egyptians’ oppression of the Israelites, and that Moses had been chosen to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians. Moses did not feel capable for the task. God asked Moses, “What is that in your hand?” (See Exodus 4:2.) It was a rod. God then told Moses to throw the rod on the ground, and when he did, it became a serpent. Then God said, “Take it by the tail,” and it became a rod again. That serpent was a cobra, the symbol of Egypt. God was telling Moses that He was going to use what was in his hand to take Egypt and shake it. God used what was in Moses’ hand to bring and remove the ten plagues and to open the waters of the Red Sea. “SERVING” IS IN YOUR HAND I was flying on a plane to speak at a Conference. They were serving the meal, but since I had on a silk dress and had to go right to the Conference, I wasn’t eating. The woman sitting across me had a baby. The Lord said to me, “Hold her baby while she eats.” I replied, “Oh, Lord, not today. I have on a silk dress! What if that baby burps on me! Or wets me! I have to get off this plane and teach!” But the Lord kept impressing me, so I said to the woman, “Would you like me to hold your baby?” I didn’t think she would allow a stranger to do that, but she agreed. So I held the baby while she ate. And when I gave the baby back to her, I was able to witness to her because I had served her. Sometimes serving is one of the most supernatural things we can do. Ruth served Naomi, and to this day, we read about her because she was willing to simply give what she had in her hands. “PRAYER” IS IN YOUR HAND The ability to pray is another thing that’s in our hands. I received an unusual phone call from a pastor one night. He said, “I want you to call my wife. We’re going through a terrible crisis, and she’s about to have a nervous breakdown.” I’m not a counsellor; consequently, I felt inadequate to be of any help. I didn’t have any big answers, but the Lord said to me: “You can be her friend, and you can pray.” So I asked her to meet me in a certain city where I was going to be speaking. I told her, “I don’t have any answers, but I can pray. I will pray with you for an hour in the morning before I pray with our staff and another hour in the afternoon.” She said, “Okay, anything to keep my sanity.” So we prayed every day from 5 to 6 a.m. Then, in the afternoon we’d pray again. We just prayed in the Spirit because we didn’t know how to pray. She then flew to another city where I was speaking, and we prayed some more. She went to Australia when we took a team there, and we would meet early and pray an hour, and we’d meet again in the afternoon to pray. Although it took two years, God straightened it out. I don’t see my friend often, but when I do, she always asks, “Would you like to pray?” We’ve been knit together in prayer. If we will fold our hands and pray, we can get supernatural results. YOUR "FAMILY" IS IN YOUR HAND Hannah wanted a child. She said, “God, if you will give me a son, I will give him to You as long as he lives.” And He gave her Samuel. When she rocked Samuel’s cradle, did Hannah know what was in her hand? She knew Samuel was committed to God, but she did not know he would be a prophet and write two books of the Bible. She did not know he would be a priest, a judge, that he would anoint David, and that the house of David would never end. Sometimes women say, “I’m just a mother.” Being a mother is the greatest thing you can be! You hold destiny in your hands. If Jesus stood here in person and stretched out His hands, we would see the nail prints. He will carry those scars forever. He gave His life... and His hands. And they were nailed to a Cross. But He didn’t stay on the Cross. He died. He rose from the dead, and He’s seated at the right hand of the Father and He ever lives to intercede for you and me. Why? Because He was willing to give His hands. How about you? Are you willing to give God what is in your hands? www.mhmin.org |
