IT'S TIME

It took six weeks to organise South Africa's Largest National Day of Prayer. This event was held at a farm just outside Bloemfontein owned by former Spring-bok rugby player Ollie le Roux. The seed for the gathering was planted when a WhatsApp video did the rounds with a desperate outcry for Angus Buchan to intervene, arrange a prayer event and to ask God to "save South Africa". The KwaZulu-Natal-based pastor said God gave him these words regarding the event: "It's Time" and "One Million". When Buchan replied by posting a video on social media, he received 1,8 million responses within hours!

"After 22 April 2017, South Africa will be a changed country," said Angus Buchan. He referred to the "It's Time" gathering that drew a crowd of over a million South Africans. All indications are that this was the largest Day of Prayer in the history of South Africa!

"I look forward to the day Parliament begins every morning with the reading of Scripture and prayer, because that is what South Africa needs," Buchan told the crowd. "This is not about a political change. This is a Jesus change, because we need a Christian government." He then led the crowd in a pledge to "stand up for truth and righteousness".

"The Day of Prayer is intended for all South Africans of all genders, races and denominations who are concerned about the malice, hatred, violence, murder and corruption in the country," said Buchan. He said that it was time to stop pointing fingers, disparaging and insulting, and to acknowledge that we are all to blame in some or other way and should embrace one another in Christ. "It's time to suit the action to the word. We declare war on the disregard for human life and unkindness. On 22 April, we will be drawing a line in the sand."

Called 'It's Time' this mass event aimed to show that it's high time for believers to stand together to see positive change in a country which has so much potential and yet has been held back by so many issues, not the least of which are corruption, violence, and division.

Angus Buchan focused mainly on three key Scriptures:

James 5:16 - "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."

2 Chronicles 7:14 - "If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Isaiah 66:8b - "Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment?"

Angus continued: "Today we are witnessing history. This gathering is a prayer meeting, not a gospel concert. It is not even an evangelistic outreach, it is a prayer meeting. We are going to pray together and as individuals... It is not good enough to just go to your house and pray for your family. We need to come together as a nation and we need to seek the Lord together. You may not know it but there are one million people over here today... God is calling us to draw a line in the sand and say 'devil no further than this'. God says He will save South Africa. He is a faithful God who answers our prayers. Amen!" he added.

"It is time we acted like children of God and pray regularly, and not only when we need God. People hardly have the time to pray - how could we expect change to take place? If we could pray to God for rain, just imagine what He could do with our prayers to heal the sick, to help the country, to turn hearts back to Him Who is risen," said Buchan.

"Jesus is eagerly waiting to hear from us. When people are desperate, they always pray to God for help," said Buchan.

He added that he was not speaking to a church, but to the nation. "I'm not speaking to a church, I'm not speaking to a congregation, I'm speaking to a nation. And I want to ask you a question. Can a nation be born in a day?" To which the large crowd answered enthusiastically in the affirmative. Buchan said that he had valid information and confirmed that one million people attended the National Day of Prayer. "This is going to blow you away: There are as many people here today as the Israelites that were delivered from slavery in Egypt: one million!"

Local residents who made the journey to the gathering de-scribed the event as 'absolutely mind-blowing and spiritually uplifting.' They witnessed con-cerned citizens of all races, colours, cultures and religious denominations praying together!

Buchan said the change that people would like to see in the country should start with individuals confessing and repenting of their sins. He said South Africa is fighting a spiritual war and he also said that the struggle is not about black or white nor is it about men and women, but it is about good versus evil. Buchan said, "Because you believe, we can face tomorrow and we believe that South Africa will be saved."

Prayer makes such a difference. It takes us from a place of falling or failing to a place where we arise. "Those that wait upon the Lord shall rise up like eagles." Let us follow the example of our brothers and sisters in South Africa and humble ourselves and pray. Let's believe that we who are righteous through Christ, will pray prayers that are powerful and effective!
