WHO CREATED THE UNIVERSE?

BBC News reports: Well-known theoretical physicist, Professor Stephen Hawking, recently released the following statement: "God did not create the Universe, there is no place for God in theories on the creation of the Universe." He had previously argued that belief in a creator was not incompatible with science, but in a new book he concludes the Big Bang was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics. His book, The Grand Design, states there is no need to invoke God to set the Universe going. "Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something," he concluded. In his new book, Britain's most famous physicist sets out to contest Sir Isaac Newton's belief that the Universe must have been designed by God as it could not have sprung out of chaos.
From a Christian perspective, the fact that Professor Hawking is a world-renowned physicist and has substantial influence within the UK and USA, confirms the growth of atheism in a secular world searching for the truth. Atheism is currently the fastest growing "faith" in the world and with Britain sending 15 000 missionaries outside their borders and the USA 127 000, the effect of a "godless Universe" could shape missions dramatically. With more and more Christians leaning towards Hawking's theories, the Church stands to lose a next generation of Bible-believing Christians. This in effect would create a decline in the number of missionaries being sent out to the unreached. Bi-weekly newsletter of INContext Ministries, No. 12, 23 Sept. 2010.

As the publishers of Good News, we believe the Word of God, which states:
- "In the beginning GOD created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1 NKJV).
- "He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens at His discretion" (Jer. 10:12 NKJV).
- "The heavens declare the glory of GOD; and the firmament shows His handiwork" (Ps. 19:1 NKJV).
- "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?" (Ps. 8:3-4 NKJV).
