GOD'S POWER TO HEAL | |

![]() Ingvar Nommensen grew up on a little island of the North Sea called Nordstrand. His family was very poor. One day while Ingvar was wrestling with some other boys, a horse and carriage ran over him, crushing his leg. There was no doctor on the island. Consequently, his suffering was excruciating and his leg steadily became worse. However, during this period, he heard stories of missionaries who had gone to faraway places. And the only book his parents owned was a Bible which he read with great interest. Finally a doctor came to the island and visited the Nommensen’s shack. After examination, the doctor said, "His foot must be amputated. It is the only way to save his life." Ingvar listened carefully. Later he took the Bible and read these words of Christ, "Verily, verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in My Name, He will give it to you" (John 16:23). He called his mother and asked if this were true - even today. She assured him that the promise was still true. So he suggested that they ask God to heal his foot. Ingvar bowed his head, folded his hands, and prayed. "O God, please heal my foot! And after that send me to the heathen." Six weeks later the neigbours and friends were amazed to see the young lad completely healed! In 1861, Ingvar graduated from Seminary and was ordained as a pastor. The next year he arrived in Sumatra. Ingvar worked for fifty-seven years with these savage, cannibalistic tribes. At the time of his death in 1918, more than one hundred thousand of them had become Christians! "As My Father hath sent Me, even so send I you" (John 20:21). [From: "Open My Eyes" by David Morken]. |
