CHRISTIAN ATHLETES WITNESS AT OLYMPICS

Many Christian athletes competing in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, testified of their faith.

Take the Fiji Sevens Men's Rugby Team who won their country's first ever gold medal. In perfect harmony in both English and Fijian they sang: "We have overcome. By the blood of the Lamb, and the Word of the Lord."

The swimmer Yusra Mardini who won her heat in the 100-metre butterfly also testified of God's goodness. Last year she fled Damascus in Syria with her sister and travelled through Lebanon and Turkey before trying to reach Greece in a boat made for 6 people, but carrying 20.

After the motor of the boat failed, the Mardini sisters and another woman jumped into the water and swam for three and a half hours, pulling the boat and stopping it from capsizing before reaching the island of Lesbos.

The group then continued their 1 000 mile journey from Greece on foot, by train and by bus, before eventually arriving in Germany.

She was given asylum in Berlin, where her swimming talents were spotted, leading to her being the first member of a 10-strong refugee team to compete in Brazil. Her story won the hearts of many in Rio and across the world.

American women's high jump record-holder Chaunte Lowe's testimony is also inspiring. When she was only 4 years old, God planted a vision in her heart to compete in track and field in the Olympics and testify of her faith. Born into a single-parent home with a mother addicted to alcohol and drugs, becoming an Olympic competitor seemed impossible. But Lowe's grandmother planted seeds of faith, took her to church and told her about Jesus. Years later she represented the U.S. in the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Olympics, and this year in Rio. "All I do is run and jump over a bar," she stated. "But I have a relationship with Christ. God knew this sport would allow me to go and share my testimony. It's because of Jesus that I am here."
